Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed concern on Monday over the rocket launches from southern Lebanon, emphasizing the threat they pose to citizen safety and security. The attacks, attributed to Hezbollah, were in response to the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, marking the first such incident since the 2024 ceasefire agreement.
Salam, in a statement on social media, criticized the rocket launches as irresponsible and jeopardizing Lebanon’s stability, giving Israel justification for further military actions. He affirmed Lebanon’s commitment to preventing further escalations and ensuring the safety of its people.
In response to the rocket strikes, Israel conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled areas in Lebanon, holding the militant group accountable for the attacks. While one rocket was intercepted, others landed in uninhabited regions, prompting air raid alerts in northern Israel.
Despite sporadic rocket fire, the region had experienced relative calm since the ceasefire, with Israel conducting targeted airstrikes in Lebanon to counter perceived threats. The recent escalation followed Hezbollah’s condemnation of Khamenei’s assassination by Israel, labeling it a grave offense.
