Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain has taken over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS). This appointment signifies the completion of the leadership transition at the Army headquarters. General Dhiraj Seth has assumed the position of the 31st Army Chief, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi, while Lt Gen Sandeep Jain steps into the role vacated by the outgoing Army Chief.
Lt General Sandeep Jain, a graduate of the National Defence Academy (NDA), joined the MAHAR Regiment in June 1988. Recently, he paid tribute to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the Southern Command War Memorial in Pune. Addressing the Southern Command personnel, he emphasized the importance of remaining mission-ready and maintaining operational preparedness to tackle security challenges effectively.
With a career spanning over four decades, Lt General Sandeep Jain has served in various command and staff positions in different operational settings. He has led an Infantry Battalion in semi-desert terrain, served in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, commanded an Infantry Brigade in a Strike Corps, and held roles in Counter Insurgency Force and a Pivot Corps in Northern Command.
Throughout his career, Lieutenant General Jain has gained extensive experience in diverse operational environments, including participation in Operation Pawan and service as a Military Observer with the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia. His tenure has involved operations in high-altitude regions, counter-insurgency activities along the Line of Control, and in the North East. He has also commanded a Corps in Northern Command and served as Chief of Staff at Headquarters Southern Command, contributing significantly to capability development and operational readiness.
