Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu visited Navjeevan Vihar in south Delhi, praising the resident-driven zero-waste system. He urged other RWAs in the city to emulate Navjeevan Vihar’s decentralized model and prioritize source segregation for sustainable waste management.
During his visit, Sandhu inspected various facilities at Navjeevan Vihar, including the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (RRR) Centre, decentralized composting units, source-segregation mechanisms, and a rainwater harvesting system. He highlighted the community’s efforts in diverting over 10 lakh kilograms of waste from Delhi’s landfill sites over nearly eight years.
Sandhu emphasized the importance of public participation and behavioral change in achieving sustainable waste management. He encouraged RWAs across Delhi to adopt a decentralized model, focus on source segregation, and collaborate to create a cleaner and greener urban environment under the #ViksitDilli initiative.
The Lieutenant Governor commended the residents of Navjeevan Vihar for their commitment to waste segregation, recycling, composting, and water conservation. He praised the community-driven initiative as a testament to how collective civic responsibility can lead to a more sustainable urban environment.
During the visit, Sandhu engaged with colony residents in an open house session, exchanging ideas and listening to their suggestions. The residents showcased their efforts in garbage segregation, composting, and promoting sustainability, including displaying paintings on waste management and rainwater harvesting.
