The historic Jaleshwarnath Mahadev Temple in Horalpatti village, Darbhanga district, faced significant damage to its dome due to a lightning strike. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and all 25 devotees present at the temple complex remained unharmed.
Local residents shared that the lightning struck the temple spire around 11 p.m. on June 28 during heavy rainfall and thunder. The impact of the strike caused damage to a portion of the temple’s dome and affected the Trishul installed on top of the spire.
Temple priest Shiv Shankar Giri mentioned that the lightning strike, accompanied by a loud thunderclap, caused panic among the devotees present. Despite the powerful strike damaging the upper part of the temple, including the dome and the sacred trident, all individuals within the complex were safe.
The Jaleshwarnath Mahadev Temple is a significant religious site in the Mithilanchal region, attracting devotees from various districts of Bihar and even from neighboring Nepal during religious events. The temple, known for its historical and cultural importance, has faced lightning strikes in the past, emphasizing the need for immediate repair and conservation efforts.
