Liquor traders in Jaipur closed their shops and protested outside the Excise Office in Jhalana, seeking extended liquor sale timings and an end to perceived police harassment. The strike, organized by the Raj Liquor Welfare Society, garnered support from many vendors, leading to a temporary shutdown of several establishments.
Under the banner of the society, hundreds of traders marched to the Excise Office to voice their opposition to the state government’s new excise policy, specifically objecting to a proposed 12.5% increase in liquor sales targets.
President Nilesh Mewara of the society criticized the government for raising sales targets without fulfilling its promise of extending liquor sale hours, which he argued added undue pressure on traders. A delegation of protesters met with District Excise Officer Mahipal Singh to present a memorandum outlining their demands and grievances.
