The Lok Sabha engaged in a heated discussion on the government’s actions against Left-Wing Extremism. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde praised Maharashtra’s endeavors, especially in Gadchiroli, a region long plagued by Maoist activities. He commended the state’s effective measures to eradicate Maoism, citing instances of solidarity like celebrating Diwali with locals during Eknath Shinde’s tenure as Guardian Minister.
Shinde expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s leadership, believing that the eradication of Maoism was achievable. In contrast, Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar criticized the ruling party for allegedly disregarding the sacrifices of previous governments and police forces in combating Maoist violence.
Sankar accused the government of monopolizing credit for the anti-Maoist efforts, questioning the ruling MPs’ claims. He highlighted the sacrifices made by Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh during Maoist attacks from 2006 to 2009, emphasizing the overlooked contributions of Congress workers.
The debate in the Lok Sabha exposed the differing viewpoints on acknowledging past sacrifices and attributing credit in the fight against extremism. While the ruling side focused on present leadership and state-level actions, the opposition stressed the importance of recognizing historical sacrifices and challenged the narrative of sole credit.
