When Pallavi Payeng’s daughter was just six months old, she faced a tough decision: to continue pursuing her passion for weightlifting or prioritize time with her child. With her husband’s support and her mother’s help in caring for the baby, Pallavi chose to return to training. Her dedication paid off when she won the silver medal in the women’s 69kg category at the Khelo India Tribal Games.
Hailing from the Mising Tribe in Assam, Pallavi started her weightlifting journey in 2018 and quickly made a name for herself by winning medals at state championships. Despite facing setbacks due to the Covid-19 lockdown and embracing motherhood, Pallavi’s determination to excel in weightlifting never wavered.
Returning to the sport after childbirth was a challenging yet exciting prospect for Pallavi. She acknowledged the difficulties faced by women in regaining full fitness post-pregnancy but remained focused on her goal. Balancing her training with motherhood meant spending long hours away from her child, but the unwavering support of her family kept her motivated.
Pallavi’s journey back to competitive weightlifting was not without hurdles. Initial competitions post-childbirth saw mixed results, but her perseverance eventually paid off. Winning silver and gold medals in various championships showcased her gradual return to form. The silver medal at the Khelo India Tribal Games marked a significant milestone in her career, boosting her confidence in her abilities.
