Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently assessed initiatives funded by the Nirbhaya Fund in Kota to enhance women’s safety. He emphasized upgrading CCTV cameras with artificial intelligence for better surveillance and expanding coverage in critical areas. Birla also called for deploying ‘Pink Patrolling Vans’ and setting up ‘Pink Booths’ across the city to ensure prompt assistance for women.
In a meeting attended by Rajasthan Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar, Birla highlighted the importance of women’s safety in fostering public trust. He urged officials to swiftly implement approved measures to create a secure environment for women and girls. Special attention was given to student safety, with plans to enhance self-defence training and cyber awareness programs, especially for young women in coaching centers.
Furthermore, Birla instructed the transformation of Kota’s Women’s Police Station into a ‘Model Women’s Police Station’ for more effective policing. The city is part of the ‘Inclusive Cities for Women and Girls’ initiative funded by the Nirbhaya Fund, receiving Rs 10 crore to improve urban safety for women. Planned interventions include AI-enabled CCTV systems, Pink e-rickshaws, high-mast lighting, women-led police patrols, and other safety measures.
