Lt Gen Mohit Malhotra, AVSM, SM, has taken over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s South Western Command based in Jaipur. With over 37 years of military service, Lt Gen Malhotra has held various command, staff, and instructional roles in the Indian Army. He previously served as the Chief of Staff at Headquarters Eastern Command, focusing on operational readiness and organizational efficiency.
Having led formations in challenging environments like the Siachen Glacier, Lt Gen Malhotra’s experience includes commanding an Armoured Regiment, an Independent Armoured Brigade, an Armoured Division, and the Desert Corps. His expertise spans operational planning and multi-domain military operations across different theaters. Lt Gen Malhotra has also served in key staff positions involving operational planning, military intelligence, logistics, personnel management, technology integration, and strategic communications.
Lt Gen Malhotra, a distinguished military scholar, holds dual Master’s degrees in Defence Studies, one from King’s College London, and two M.Phil degrees in Political Science and Defence & Strategic Studies. He has completed prestigious courses like the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the UK, the Higher Air Command Course, and the National Defence College, excelling in various military programs. Recognized for his service, he has been honored with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Sena Medal (SM), along with commendations from Army Commanders and the Chief of Army Staff.
Taking charge of the South Western Command during a critical period in the western theatre, Lt Gen Malhotra brings a proven track record of operational excellence, strategic vision, and leadership. Under his guidance, the Indian Army is steadfast in its commitment to protecting national security and territorial integrity through one of its strategically significant commands.
