Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced securing significant domestic orders in its minerals and metals business sector, totaling between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 15,000 crore. The company revealed that these contracts were awarded by top firms in the metals and mining industry for projects focusing on expanding iron ore, steel, and zinc processing capacities.
The minerals and metals (M&M) business division of L&T has clinched multiple orders from leading domestic metals and mining companies, showcasing its expertise in providing top-notch engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions throughout the metals and minerals value chain. One notable win includes a contract from India’s largest iron ore producer for an 18 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh.
This project is part of the producer’s strategy to boost its iron ore production capacity to 100 MTPA by 2030. L&T’s responsibilities encompass various aspects such as design, engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning of essential components like a downhill conveyor system, screening plant, stockpile, yard equipment, and a Rapid Wagon Loading System (RWLS), among others.
Moreover, L&T has also secured an order from a Navratna public sector undertaking for enhancing a steel plant in West Bengal, aiming to raise its production capacity from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA. Additionally, the company has landed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a zinc processing plant, which includes design, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, and related site services, bolstering its presence in the non-ferrous metallurgical sector.
L&T’s Chairman and Managing Director, S N Subrahmanyan, expressed satisfaction with these order wins, emphasizing that they underscore the company’s leadership in the minerals and metals EPC domain. He highlighted that these contracts reflect the trust of customers in L&T’s capabilities to handle projects of substantial scale and complexity, especially as India ramps up investments in expanding its metals and minerals capacity to support long-term economic growth.
