Lucknow Super Giants’ batting all-rounder Mitchell Marsh acknowledged the team’s challenges in finding rhythm at the top of the order in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Marsh emphasized the importance of regaining fluency in the power-play overs to improve their performance. The team, currently in ninth place on the points table, aims to turn their campaign around with a crucial match against KKR at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
“Well, I’ve probably got a similar strike rate to what my dad used to have, so I’m trying to work on that. But we’ve had our challenges with the bat. We haven’t been able to get going in the power play,” Marsh expressed in a pre-game discussion with the broadcasters. The team has faced difficulties in setting up their innings and establishing a rhythm. Marsh highlighted the significance of making an impact in the initial six overs to steer the team towards victory.
When questioned about the comparison of the pitch to the WACA in Perth by LSG head coach Justin Langer, Marsh shared his perspective. He mentioned enjoying batting at the venue despite it not entirely resembling the WACA. Marsh praised the ground for rewarding strong cricket shots and providing opportunities for solid partnerships. He expressed optimism about delivering strong performances in the upcoming matches.
Lucknow Super Giants have experimented with three opening combinations, including Marsh partnering with Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, and Ayush Badoni. Marsh, commenting on the changing opening pairs, stated that he is flexible and focused on ensuring a strong start for the team. Regardless of the opening partner, Marsh emphasized the importance of a good start and making a positive impact early in the game.
