Contraceptives, a bed, and a dressing table were discovered in a ward office of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation that had been locked since the state Assembly election results were announced on May 4. Upon opening the office, it was revealed to be a lavish space with multiple air conditioners and sofas in various rooms. The MLA of the area and state Health Minister, Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee, expressed shock at the luxurious setup.
Dr. Mukherjee was surprised to find a bedroom in the ward office and remarked that such amenities should not be present in such a place. Former Trinamool ward councillor Jaydev Naskar has been missing since the election results were declared. Residents had complained about the ward office’s inefficiency, prompting the Health Minister to inspect the premises.
Upon inspection, expensive furniture like sofas and over five air conditioners were found in the office. The councillor’s room contained a bed, winter blankets, pillows, sheets, and even a packet of condoms on the dressing table. Questions have been raised about how these items made their way into a civic service office and whether public funds were misused.
Allegations of immoral activities and misappropriation of public funds have surfaced following the discovery. The Health Minister emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible for misusing public resources. The Bidhannagar Police have been informed and are investigating the matter, responding to complaints from locals.
Luxurious party offices linked to Trinamool Congress leaders have been uncovered in various locations since the change in government. In a separate incident at Suruchi Sangha club in south Kolkata, an illegal building housing luxurious amenities and government relief materials was found, allegedly linked to former state minister Aroop Biswas and his brother Swarup Biswas.
