Madhya Pradesh has set a new record in wheat procurement this season, surpassing the target by acquiring over 104 lakh 22 thousand metric tonnes of wheat. Led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the state procured from a record 13 lakh 41 thousand 266 farmers, the highest number in the country. This achievement places Madhya Pradesh as the second-highest wheat procurer in India, following Punjab.
The state’s procurement of wheat, excluding the Covid-19 period, marks the highest in the last decade. Emphasizing support for small and marginal farmers, Madhya Pradesh obtained more than 32 lakh 14 thousand metric tonnes from 8 lakh 9 thousand 990 such farmers. Farmers have received payments totaling Rs 23,708.13 crore, with 93% of the procured quantity already transported.
Wheat was purchased at Rs 2,625 per quintal, inclusive of the minimum support price and an additional bonus of Rs 40 per quintal provided by the state government. Notably, Bhopal recorded the highest procurement at 28 lakh 47 thousand 284 metric tonnes, followed by Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Narmadapuram. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s proactive role, including surprise inspections and direct farmer interactions, significantly contributed to this success.
To enhance farmer convenience, the procurement period was extended, and facilities at procurement centers were upgraded. The government ensured adequate supplies of essential resources like gunny bags, weighing equipment, and quality testing tools. Through continuous monitoring and farmer-centric decisions, Madhya Pradesh achieved this historic wheat procurement milestone.
