Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised the state police for dismantling a suspected radicalized terror group with ties to a Pakistani handler. Yadav highlighted the arrest of Mohammad Faraz by the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad, underscoring the uncovering of the broader network and its purported schemes.
Yadav, in a press interaction, commended the police for uncovering a plot that could have endangered national security. He acknowledged the police for not only detaining the suspect in time but also revealing his entire network and the alleged conspiracy. The recovery of substantial alleged jihadi material during the operation was cited as indicative of the gravity of the situation and the state police’s counterterrorism capabilities.
Following the arrest of Faraz in Bhopal’s Qazi Camp area, the Chief Minister’s statements came as a validation of the police’s efforts. Faraz, allegedly collaborating with radicalized youths under a Pakistani handler’s guidance, was reportedly gearing up for anti-national activities and potential lone-wolf assaults. Investigators suggested that Faraz, in contact with a Pakistan-based handler through intermediaries, was linked to various WhatsApp and Telegram groups comprising radicalized individuals globally.
Allegations indicate that the network members were being incited to carry out targeted assaults and urged to acquire passports for terrorist training abroad. Authorities claimed that Faraz had obtained a passport and was preparing for overseas activities associated with the network. The accused was presented before a special court in Bhopal, which remanded him to police custody until June 16 for further questioning. Charges have been filed against him and another individual under relevant laws.
Mohan Yadav extended his congratulations to the police force, noting the significant accomplishments of the state’s law enforcement agencies in recent times. He affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the police force by ensuring regular recruitment and filling vacant positions, aiming to fortify law enforcement and governance in Madhya Pradesh.
