Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Mithun Ahirwar raised concerns about the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state. He claimed that despite the ECI’s assurance of strict verification, two new voter ID cards were issued in his name. The SIR initiative, part of a nationwide voter roll verification drive, involved house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and was completed in February this year.
Ahirwar criticized the ECI, questioning the credibility of the voter verification exercise. He highlighted his personal experience where his name was initially removed from the voter list during a previous SIR process. Instead of reinstating his name, authorities issued two fresh voter ID cards with identical details but different ID numbers. The Congress leader demanded an explanation from the ECI on how such discrepancies occurred despite claims of thorough verification.
Ahirwar further emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process. He called for an impartial inquiry to investigate the issuance of duplicate voter IDs and the removal of genuine names from the electoral rolls. The Congress spokesperson also expressed concerns about the potential impact on voting integrity if such irregularities were not addressed promptly.
