Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari has urged for transparency regarding the Sardar Sarovar Project settlement, questioning the financial agreement with Gujarat. Patwari criticized Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for making decisions without consulting key stakeholders, demanding a detailed White Paper on the recent discussions.
During a press conference in Bhopal, Patwari emphasized the need to disclose all details from the New Delhi meeting, including proposals from the Centre, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. He raised concerns about the calculation of the previous Rs 1,500 crore liability to Gujarat and the claimed savings of over Rs 1,200 crore under the revised agreement.
Patwari accused the government of bypassing necessary consultations with the Cabinet, Opposition, and relevant organizations. He highlighted the lack of transparency in financial matters and criticized the government for not addressing crucial state issues adequately. The Congress party has persistently requested a White Paper on the state’s finances.
The BJP government defended the agreement, stating it would alleviate Madhya Pradesh’s financial burden and resolve a longstanding dispute over the Sardar Sarovar Project expenses. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the consensus as a significant step towards water security and cooperative federalism, emphasizing the reduction in rehabilitation costs for the state.
