Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, Jitu Patwari, criticized Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s choice to keep the Animal Husbandry and Cow Welfare Department following a recent Cabinet expansion. Patwari emphasized that the decision should lead to improved governance and real advancements in the sector. This critique arose after Patharia MLA Lakhan Patel was appointed as a Minister of State with independent charge in the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Patel was initially assigned the Animal Husbandry and Cow Welfare Department but later, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav opted to retain the department himself. In an open letter to the Chief Minister, Patwari highlighted that the public is more concerned about the government’s performance than mere portfolio transfers. Patwari questioned whether the retention of the department would bring about positive changes in the sector.
Patwari also targeted the BJP, accusing them of neglecting cow welfare despite projecting it as a significant political issue. He pointed out the challenges faced by gaushalas in the state, including shortages of fodder, water, and veterinary care. Patwari raised concerns about the viability of livestock farming due to escalating costs and insufficient government assistance. Additionally, he referenced government data showing a high number of road accidents involving stray cattle in the past two years, leading to fatalities and injuries.
