Madhya Pradesh is experiencing severe heatwave conditions as the “Nautapa,” the nine hottest days of summer, begins, with temperatures surpassing 45 degrees Celsius in various districts. The India Meteorological Department in Bhopal has issued heat-wave warnings, expecting the scorching weather to persist for the next few days. On May 25, the state recorded maximum temperatures ranging from 44-46 degrees Celsius in the east and 42-44 degrees Celsius in the west.
The town of Khajuraho registered the highest temperature at 47.2 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest place in Madhya Pradesh. Heatwave conditions have been reported in several areas, including Khajuraho, Datia, Mandla, Tikamgarh, Malajkhand, and Nowgaon. Night temperatures have also remained high in Gwalior, Tikamgarh, and Datia, adding to the discomfort.
The Meteorological Department forecasts maximum temperatures between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius for most parts of Madhya Pradesh on May 26, well above normal. A total of 37 districts, including Rewa, Satna, Panna, Bhopal, Vidisha, Ujjain, and Jabalpur, are under heatwave alert. The situation is exacerbated by the onset of ‘Nautapa,’ with some relief seen in certain districts due to light storms and drizzle.
Thunderstorm activity has been reported in over 15 districts, accompanied by strong winds, with the impact extending to neighboring Chhattisgarh. In Raipur, temperatures are expected to remain above 45 degrees Celsius, prompting authorities to issue advisories. Health authorities have issued guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses, urging people to stay hydrated, wear light clothes, and take necessary precautions.
The prolonged heatwave has affected outdoor workers, farmers, and commuters, leading to adjustments in daily routines. As the state remains on high alert during ‘Nautapa,’ officials advise residents, especially vulnerable groups, to stay updated on weather conditions and take precautions.
