The Madhya Pradesh government, as stated by Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput, has successfully procured more than 87.71 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from over 12.10 lakh farmers during the current rabi procurement season. The procurement process is set to continue until May 23, with continuous monitoring by the department to ensure a seamless experience for farmers at the procurement centers.
The Food Department reports a total procurement of 87,71,485 metric tonnes of wheat from 12,10,785 registered farmers. Additionally, the government has transported 75,95,792 metric tonnes of the procured wheat from the procurement centers to streamline the process.
To expedite procurement and minimize waiting time for farmers, the state government has implemented various measures. These include extending the time for generating weighing slips from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., extending the bill issuance deadline until midnight, and increasing the number of weighing scales at each procurement center from four to six.
District administrations have been granted the authority to further augment the number of weighing scales if necessary to prevent delays for farmers at the procurement centers. The procurement of wheat is being conducted at Rs 2,625 per quintal, incorporating the minimum support price of Rs 2,585 per quintal and a state bonus of Rs 40 per quintal.
Payments totaling Rs 10,19,138 crore have already been disbursed to farmers under the procurement initiative. Notably, Bhopal, Ujjain, and Jabalpur divisions recorded substantial wheat procurement figures during the ongoing season, with Bhopal leading at 24,62,136 metric tonnes, followed by Ujjain at 20,23,374 metric tonnes and Jabalpur at 9,91,141 metric tonnes.
