The Madhya Pradesh government is set to conduct a one-day state-level workshop on the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) in Bhopal on June 28. The workshop aims to enhance the implementation of the country’s new criminal laws and enhance coordination among various agencies involved in the criminal justice system.
Scheduled to take place at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium (Minto Hall) starting at 9:30 a.m., the workshop will see the participation of senior police officers from all districts, judges, and officials from the prosecution, prison, and forensic science departments. The event is designed to ensure the effective enforcement of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023.
The new criminal laws, which came into effect nationwide on July 1, 2024, replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act. These laws aim to modernize the criminal justice system by leveraging technology, including digital records, electronic evidence, and expedited investigations. Madhya Pradesh has been actively conducting training programs for police personnel and stakeholders to integrate digital platforms under the ICJS for seamless information exchange among law enforcement, courts, prosecution, prisons, and forensic science labs.
The workshop will provide a platform for stakeholders to strategize on the effective implementation of the new legal framework. It seeks to establish coordination among all components of the criminal justice system to enhance efficiency and transparency in delivering justice. The event is expected to bolster inter-departmental coordination and improve the overall effectiveness of the criminal justice system in the state.
