Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel has approved the resignation of Prof S.K. Jain as Vice-Chancellor of Barkatullah University (BU) in Bhopal. Prof Vivek Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Management, has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor until a permanent successor is named. This decision was formalized through an order issued by Raj Bhavan on Friday.
Prof Jain tendered his resignation on June 18, which was swiftly accepted the next day. Under the Madhya Pradesh Universities Act, 1973, the Chancellor has instructed Prof Sharma to assume the additional responsibilities immediately. Prof Sharma will be responsible for both administrative and academic matters at the university during this interim period.
The appointment of Prof Sharma in this acting capacity is aimed at preventing any administrative gaps at the institution. The reasons behind Prof Jain’s resignation have not been publicly disclosed. This development has attracted attention within the higher education community in Madhya Pradesh, with many eagerly anticipating the selection of a new Vice-Chancellor to lead the university in the long term.
