The Madhya Pradesh government has introduced a new initiative to promote renewable energy and citizen involvement by offering an eight per cent return on green bonds issued for a solar power plant in Jalood village, Khargone district. This project signifies a significant advancement in the state’s renewable energy efforts, blending innovation with community engagement.

State MSMEs Minister, Chetanya Kumar Kashyap, highlighted the uniqueness of this solar plant, established by the Indore Municipal Corporation, which will directly use the generated electricity. The issuance of green bonds for this project, approved by both the state and Central governments, offers an attractive investment opportunity for local citizens, starting at denominations of Rs 100,000 with an assured eight per cent return.

This initiative not only enhances the financial stability of the municipal corporation but also enables residents to actively contribute to sustainable development. The model of citizen-funded bonds for solar power plants is set to expand to other local bodies in Madhya Pradesh, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and promoting environmental sustainability.

The green bond initiative in Madhya Pradesh, focusing on citizen participation and sustainable growth, is seen as a significant step towards clean energy financing, showcasing a blend of economic viability and ecological consciousness. It sets a benchmark for renewable energy financing, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a frontrunner in the sector.
