Madhya Pradesh’s Religious Trusts and Endowments Minister, Dharmendra Lodhi, has pledged strict action against those involved in alleged financial irregularities with devotees’ donations at the Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Agar-Malwa. Lodhi emphasized that no one would be spared once the inquiry is concluded. The state government initiated a probe following claims that unauthorized individuals were collecting donations in the temple’s name through a separate system outside the officially recognized temple management committee.
The issue gained political traction after the opposition Congress demanded a transparent investigation and raised concerns about the management of temple donations. Lodhi stated that individuals unrelated to the temple administration were illicitly gathering funds by issuing receipts in the temple’s name. He instructed the Collector to take necessary action, formed an inquiry committee, and assured that those found guilty would face consequences.
In response to complaints, the Agar-Malwa Collector established a three-member inquiry committee to address allegations of a non-governmental group collecting donations independently from the government-recognized temple management committee. The complaints suggested that offerings like cash, gold, silver, and jewelry from devotees were being collected through an unauthorized system and deposited into private bank accounts instead of the temple’s official accounts.
The inquiry committee’s mandate includes inspecting the temple premises, scrutinizing records and bank accounts, verifying donations in cash and valuables, and determining the existence of any unauthorized donation collection methods. It will also assess the involvement of government officials, temple management representatives, and other relevant individuals in the alleged irregularities. The committee is tasked with submitting its findings within seven days.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar criticized the BJP government, drawing parallels with controversies surrounding other temples and urging a fair and transparent investigation. Singhar emphasized the importance of properly accounting for devotees’ offerings. Minister Lodhi refuted the opposition’s claims, highlighting the government’s monitoring system for temples under its jurisdiction and asserting a zero-tolerance policy towards irregularities.
The Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Agar-Malwa, Madhya Pradesh, is a significant shrine dedicated to Goddess Baglamukhi, attracting numerous devotees annually from across the country. The ongoing inquiry is of interest due to the temple’s religious importance and the ensuing political discourse on transparency in managing devotees’ donations.
