The Madhya Pradesh Police apprehended two individuals for allegedly setting fire to saffron flags placed in preparation for a Hindu conference in Lohiya town, Betul district. The complaint, lodged by Romit Uike, a member of the organizing committee, reported the burning of flags at the venue and along the roadside late Friday night. The Hindu Conference, scheduled for January 18 as part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) centenary celebrations, faced disruption due to the incident.
Following the incident, local RSS workers discovered that several saffron flags were missing and burnt during their morning activities. This led to tensions in the area, prompting a protest by right-wing activists demanding action. Betul Superintendent of Police, Virendra Jain, and senior officials initiated an inquiry and deployed heavy security to maintain order in the region. Subsequently, police investigations using CCTV footage identified two suspects removing and burning the flags.
The accused individuals, identified as Taufeeq and Musharraf, were arrested after a thorough search. Betul SP Jain confirmed that they were charged under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for their actions. The incident, aimed at disrupting the upcoming Hindu conference and inciting communal disharmony, led to the swift arrest of the perpetrators, ensuring the maintenance of law and order in the area.
