The Madhya Pradesh government plans to establish a farm machinery rental shop in each Assembly constituency to enhance farmers’ access to modern agricultural equipment, especially for small landholders. This initiative is part of the state’s focus on farm mechanisation during the “Year of Farmers’ Welfare” under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s guidance. Currently, there are 5,260 operational farm machinery rental centres in the state, with a goal to add approximately 1,060 new shops annually to broaden the network.
The objective of this initiative is to provide modern agricultural machinery to small and marginal farmers at reasonable service rates, while also fostering opportunities for rural entrepreneurs. Vidisha district is evolving as a significant hub for manufacturing agricultural tools, with about 150 units producing equipment like cultivators, ploughs, graders, and hydraulic trolleys. These products are distributed to farmers within Madhya Pradesh, other Indian states, and various foreign nations.
Local manufacturers primarily serve farmers in Vidisha and nearby areas, in addition to clients in other states, attributing the sector’s growth to government assistance and escalating demand. The state government emphasized its efforts to enhance farmers’ access to modern machinery, promote local manufacturing, and boost employment in the agricultural equipment industry. The expansion of farm machinery rental centres is anticipated to lower the expenses of mechanised farming for small-scale farmers who may struggle to afford costly equipment, thereby reinforcing the state’s agricultural machinery ecosystem.
