The Madras High Court has refused to extend the interim bail granted to YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar, allowing the Greater Chennai City Police to arrest him if needed for an extortion case. Initially given on medical grounds, the three-month bail was set to expire on March 25, 2026.
The court stated that the circumstances no longer warranted the bail extension and authorized the investigating agency to take necessary steps. This decision opens the possibility of Shankar’s re-arrest if his custody is deemed essential for the investigation process.
Following a Habeas Corpus Petition and a related writ petition, where allegations of solitary confinement and health concerns were raised, the court found no substantial evidence supporting these claims. The court directed prison and police authorities to ensure Shankar’s medical care while allowing the investigation to proceed without delay.
