A delegation from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) met Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam to advocate for transparency in the upcoming Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state. The alliance emphasized the need for a fair and impartial booth-level drive to prevent the disenfranchisement of genuine voters. The delegation, led by Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, submitted a memorandum with 36 points focusing on conducting the revision process fairly to protect voting rights.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi delegation, including prominent leaders like Harshwardhan Sapkal, Vijay Wadettiwar, Aaditya Thackeray, Ambadas Danve, Shashikant Shinde, and Sunil Bhusara, expressed concerns over potential voter exclusions based on community affiliations. They urged that voters should not be removed from rolls without prior formal notice, ensuring they have sufficient time to respond. Highlighting a significant increase in Maharashtra’s voter base over the past 25 years, the delegation proposed a thorough and extended revision process, given the absence of major elections in the state for the next few years.
Furthermore, the opposition alliance requested that the complete data from the Special Intensive Revision be shared with political parties in accessible formats and preserved for at least five years. They called for a one-month objection window for citizens and a streamlined process for Booth Level Agent registrations. In a press conference, Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders stressed the importance of avoiding rushed revision processes to maintain public trust in the electoral system, citing instances from other states that led to panic and distrust.
