The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Committee’s initial report, presented on Tuesday, highlighted severe bureaucratic indifference. Committee Chair Ravi Rana expressed disappointment over officials’ lack of commitment to attending meetings for discussing and acting on assurances. The committee proposed a real-time “Red-Yellow-Green” system to monitor the progress of each assurance.
The report emphasized the need for departmental secretaries to be present during deliberations and be accountable for pending assurances. It pointed out prolonged delays in fulfilling promises made by departments like Urban Development, Revenue, and Agriculture. Additionally, it raised concerns about delays in aid distribution to farmers and urged the timely completion of irrigation projects.
The committee also criticized sluggish progress in road connectivity and housing projects, particularly rural road initiatives under the Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. BJP legislator Sudhir Mungantiwar echoed Rana’s sentiments, stressing the importance of officials taking the Committee’s work seriously. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar underscored the significance of legislative committees and warned of strict action against absent officials.
