The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly approved a Bill today to revoke 80 outdated Acts and laws in the state. Minister Ashish Shelar introduced the Maharashtra Repealing Bill, 2026, to eliminate obsolete laws causing governance ambiguity. The repealed laws include Acts from regions like Bombay, Bengal, Central Provinces & Berar, Hyderabad, and Madhya Pradesh.

Minister Shelar highlighted that constitutional changes and new laws rendered many Acts in Maharashtra irrelevant. The government’s thorough review led to the decision to repeal laws no longer in use, totaling 80, including various historical legislations. Additionally, Minister Yogesh Kadam disclosed the appointment of a Nodal Officer to implement the State Human Rights Commission’s recommendations promptly.

Minister Kadam emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency by considering a separate budget head and an online portal for the SHRC’s recommendations. The move aims to enhance administrative clarity and efficiency, with plans to address pending cases and establish a streamlined process under the Chief Minister’s guidance.
