The Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure sanctioned two crucial projects aimed at improving connectivity and bolstering public transport infrastructure in the state. One of the projects involves a 3.55-km connector linking the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link to Bandra Fort. This connector, expected to cost Rs 1,722.40 crore and managed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is anticipated to reduce travel time from 20–45 minutes to just 10 minutes, providing faster and more efficient connectivity for commuters.
Additionally, the committee approved an extension of the elevated metro rail line from Kanhan River to Kanhan City under Nagpur Metro Rail Phase-2. This 1.40-km extension, featuring one elevated station, will be implemented by Maha-Metro at a cost of Rs 310.35 crore post the Central government’s approval. Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized that these projects underscore the government’s dedication to developing top-notch infrastructure and establishing quicker, safer, and more efficient transport networks for the people.
Meanwhile, Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar informed the state Assembly about the government’s readiness to consider a revised proposal for extending the runway at Morwa Airport in Chandrapur from 950 meters to 1,800 meters. Minister Shelar highlighted the challenges faced in extending the runway, including the absence of night-landing facilities and technical constraints. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting regional connectivity and enhancing airport infrastructure across Maharashtra.
To enhance regional connectivity under the UDAN scheme, Minister Shelar mentioned ongoing airport and runway development projects in various cities like Amravati, Gondia, Nashik, Jalgaon, Nanded, Solapur, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. He also emphasized the significance of a functional commercial airport in Chandrapur, which would boost wildlife tourism at the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve and promote economic growth through increased tourism and employment opportunities.
A joint high-level meeting is set to take place post the Assembly session’s conclusion, involving officials from the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), district administration, Finance Department, and local public representatives to decide on the future steps.
