Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the effective implementation of welfare schemes for the holistic development of the Other Backward Classes community. He stressed the qualitative and impactful execution of these initiatives, considering them crucial for the state’s progress. Fadnavis addressed the Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to empowering education and economic upliftment for this community.
Efforts by the state government include the establishment of an independent department for Other Backward Classes welfare. Various schemes targeting education and economic progress for Other Backward Classes, Vimukta Jati, Nomadic Tribes, Special Backward Classes, and other backward categories are being accelerated. Educational initiatives such as scholarships, financial aid for overseas education, and fee waivers for girls pursuing higher education were highlighted by CM Fadnavis.
Moreover, the state has initiated projects like Ashram schools and hostels for boys and girls across districts to provide educational opportunities. The ‘Swayam’ scheme offers financial assistance to students who do not secure hostel admissions. Training programs at the Mahajyoti Institute for competitive exams have yielded successful results in both Union and Maharashtra Public Service Commission exams.
To promote self-employment, the government is offering loans up to Rs 15 lakh through the Other Backward Classes Development Corporation. Special housing assistance under the ‘PM Modi Awas Yojana’ and subsidies for solar energy are also being provided. Fadnavis assured continuous efforts to enhance the impact and quality of welfare schemes for Other Backward Classes based on feedback from the committee.
