Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the Chief Secretary to establish a state-level committee to tackle financial challenges in the sugar industry. The committee, comprising officials from various departments, will analyze the issues faced by sugar factories and propose solutions promptly. Fadnavis emphasized the importance of this initiative in formulating a financial support package for the industry.
During a meeting at Vidhan Bhavan, CM Fadnavis highlighted the need for immediate action to assist sugar factories before the upcoming crushing season. He stressed the urgency of creating a regulatory framework for large jaggery and khandsari projects within 15 days. Fadnavis expressed the state government’s commitment to supporting the sugar industry and overcoming its obstacles through strategic decisions and cooperation with the Central Government.
Industry representatives, including Harshwardhan Patil, Dilip Walse Patil, Jayant Patil, Rajesh Tope, and Abhimanyu Pawar, urged the government to provide financial aid, loans with interest subsidies, and loan restructuring to alleviate the financial burden on sugar factories. They also requested the Chief Minister to lead a delegation to seek policy changes and financial support from the Prime Minister and relevant ministers to enhance the industry’s sustainability.
