Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, alerted about the likelihood of strong winds hitting Mumbai and nearby areas, with a potential cloudburst in Nashik. The Indian Meteorological Department forecasted gusts reaching 90 kmph, already impacting the region.
The state is grappling with heavy rainfall causing floods, landslides, and high-speed winds across multiple districts. Mumbai has faced continuous downpours for five days, leading to a ‘Red Alert’ being issued for the city and other districts like Pune, Raigad, Thane, and Palghar.
CM Fadnavis, along with Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan, highlighted the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensifying into a low-pressure system affecting the Konkan coast. He cautioned about potential waterlogging and flooding during high tides in Mumbai due to the ongoing severe weather conditions.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and outdoor activities, emphasizing the risks posed by the expected gale-force winds. He also mentioned the state’s preparedness in dealing with the situation, especially in Nashik where a cloudburst is predicted.
Against the backdrop of recent tragedies and extensive damage caused by heavy rains, CM Fadnavis stressed the importance of caution and adherence to safety measures. The administration remains on high alert, focusing on mitigation and relief efforts to address the impact of the severe weather conditions.
