The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has demanded the immediate expulsion of Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan from both the State Cabinet and the BJP. The controversy arose after Mahajan attended the 42nd anniversary commemoration of ‘Operation Blue Star’ in Punjab, where he criticized the military action and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s decision. MPCC President Harshwardhan Sapkal criticized Mahajan’s statements as irresponsible and against national interest.
Attacking Mahajan’s stance on ‘Operation Blue Star,’ Sapkal emphasized the necessity of the military action against armed separatists. He highlighted the sacrifices made by key figures involved in the operation and condemned Mahajan for disrespecting them. Sapkal accused Mahajan of having an “anti-national mindset” and questioned the BJP and RSS’s stance on the issue.
Sapkal further challenged the government’s position by questioning whether sending a state representative to an event glorifying separatist figures aligns with official policy. He called on top leaders to clarify their stance and condemn Mahajan’s remarks if they do not align with them. Sapkal accused the BJP leadership of compromising national security for political gains and demanded an apology from Mahajan to the nation and its armed forces.
