The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President, Harshwardhan Sapkal, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for turmoil before the upcoming local body elections. Sapkal accused the BJP of sidelining its loyal workers in a bid for a “Congress-mukt Bharat” (Congress-free India), leading to a “Karyakarta-mukt” (Worker-free) scenario.
In Buldhana, Sapkal expressed concerns over the BJP’s internal discord during ticket allocations for municipal elections. He highlighted the displacement of long-serving workers in favor of recent defectors from other parties, predicting similar issues in the upcoming Assembly polls. Sapkal also mentioned a diminishing influence of the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, suggesting a shift in control to corporate offices.
Allegations were also directed at the NCP (AP) led by Ajit Pawar, with Sapkal labeling it a “party of goons.” He accused the NCP (AP) of harboring mafias and individuals associated with the ‘Koyta Gang,’ citing a drug factory distributor linked to a prominent party member. Looking forward, Sapkal declared 2026 as the ‘Year of Organisation’ for the Maharashtra Congress, emphasizing the party’s growing strength and unity.
The Congress has formed an alliance with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) solely in Mumbai, with unsuccessful attempts in Pune due to internal conflicts among local leaders.
