Maharashtra Congress has taken strict action against its Ambernath leadership for forming an unauthorized alliance with the BJP in the local civic body. The party has suspended Pradeep Patil, the President of the Ambernath Block Congress Committee, along with 12 corporators for collaborating with the BJP in the Ambernath Municipal Council and engaging in anti-party activities.
Following their suspension, all 12 corporators have chosen to join the BJP under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister Ravindra Chavan. The Congress leadership criticized Patil for allegedly forming a coalition with the BJP in the municipal council without informing or seeking approval from the state headquarters, labeling it a serious breach of party discipline.
This move by the suspended Congress legislators to switch to the BJP has had significant repercussions, impacting both the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Congress party. The BJP, despite being a smaller party, managed to secure the President’s post in the Ambernath Municipal Council by forming an unexpected coalition with the Congress, NCP, and independents.
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde criticized the BJP for aligning with the Congress, stating that such actions contradict the principles of the Mahayuti coalition. This political development has altered the power dynamics in Ambernath, with the BJP gaining control through the support of defecting Congress members, leading to tensions between the BJP and the Shinde Sena in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
