In response to demands from student organizations, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the planned Computer-Based Test (CBT) system for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) will not be implemented immediately. The transition to online exams has been postponed to August 2027, allowing time for preparation. Until then, MPSC exams will continue using the traditional pen-and-paper method.
This decision was made during a review meeting led by CM Fadnavis in Mumbai, attended by MPSC Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar and senior officials. Fadnavis stressed the importance of a smooth transition to ensure a secure and transparent selection process.
Acknowledging the pressure on aspirants, Fadnavis emphasized a phased implementation starting in 2027 to give candidates time to adapt. The government’s intervention follows protests by student organizations and exam aspirants, prompting the state to provide a 13-month window for preparations.
The MPSC had announced a shift to digital exams in June 2026 to enhance transparency and reduce malpractices. However, concerns over infrastructure deficits and lack of practice with computer-based testing led to the decision to delay the transition.
