The Maharashtra government has given the green light to special incentives for 18 Mega and Ultra-Mega projects worth Rs 2,56,137.01 crore. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted that these projects are anticipated to create over one lakh job opportunities directly and indirectly in the state. The approved projects cover various sectors like solar energy, green steel, electronics manufacturing, and electric vehicles, aiming to boost industrial growth and investments.
The projects are set to play a crucial role in the development of regions like Konkan, Vidarbha, and Marathwada, contributing to the local economy and job market. Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized that besides job creation, these initiatives will foster innovation, research, and development, enhance the supply chain network, support MSMEs, and offer skill development programs for local youth, thus improving overall employability.
One of the major investments comes from Essar Exploration and Production Ltd., planning to invest Rs 56,852 crore in Raigad district, potentially creating around 25,000 jobs. Earlier directives from the Chief Minister focused on reducing regional disparities and ensuring balanced development across all districts. The state is targeting underperforming districts to drive growth and has identified specific areas for focused development to enhance overall progress.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) index, where Maharashtra ranked fourth in 2018–19, the Chief Minister urged departments to strategize detailed action plans for improved performance. The state is following the Central Government’s model by identifying Aspirational Districts and Tehsils for targeted development, aiming to reclaim its leading position in sustainable development.
