In a significant administrative move, the Maharashtra state government has initiated a major reshuffle within its police force. Vishwas Nangre Patil, a senior IPS officer known as Mumbai’s “Singham” for his tough stance on crime, has been named the new Police Commissioner of Nagpur, the state’s second capital. Nangre Patil takes over from IPS Singhal, who has been reassigned to the Anti-Corruption Bureau as Additional Director General of Police (ADG).
Another key change involves Archana Tyagi, a senior IPS officer often called the “Lady Singham,” who has also been given a new posting in this round of transfers. The reshuffle includes role swaps and promotions among various Director General (DG) and Inspector General (IG) level officers.
The restructuring sees IPS Vishwas Nangre Patil moving from ADG in the Anti-Corruption Bureau to the position of Police Commissioner in Nagpur City. Additionally, IPS Sanjay Verma transitions from Director General (Judicial and Technical) to Director General of Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, while IPS Archana Tyagi moves from Director General of Police Housing and Welfare Corporation to Director General of Judicial and Technical.
Furthermore, IPS Dattatray Shinde has been promoted to Inspector General, moving from Additional Police Commissioner in Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar to the State Crime Record Department (CID) in Pune. IPS Sanjay Shintre has been transferred from Deputy Inspector General in Cyber Mumbai to Additional Police Commissioner in Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar.
The reshuffle also affects several Superintendents of Police (SP) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) across key districts. The government’s objective behind these changes is to enhance law enforcement, bolster urban policing, and place experienced officers in crucial operational and administrative positions in preparation for future state challenges.
