Amid the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Maharashtra government has initiated a crucial mission to aid and evacuate Indian tourists and professionals stranded in the Gulf region. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in the state council meeting, highlighted the state’s collaboration with the Central Government to ensure the safety of its citizens. Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan has been assigned to oversee rescue operations and provide immediate relief.

Fadnavis emphasized the presence of a robust support system, diplomatic coordination, and community mobilization efforts. A dedicated WhatsApp helpline has been set up for real-time assistance, with Minister Girish Mahajan directly engaging with the stranded individuals via video calls to assess their situations. The state government is working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassies, issuing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to citizens for safety measures. Local Indian community organizations in the Gulf, including ‘Marathi Mandals,’ are activated to offer on-ground support such as food and shelter.

Specific attention has been directed towards issues faced by transit passengers in Kuwait due to visa complications. Measures are being taken to provide temporary accommodation and essential supplies to alleviate their situation. Despite certain airspace closures, Air India and other commercial airlines have commenced limited operations where safety permits.

Chief Minister Fadnavis stressed the priority of ensuring the safe return of Indian nationals, with arrangements being made for transport as soon as feasible routes become available. He acknowledged Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s efforts in independently facilitating the return of some citizens, lauding it as a commendable initiative. Addressing concerns about potential economic impacts, Fadnavis assured the public of fuel security, citing India’s two-month strategic fuel reserve as a buffer against immediate fuel price hikes amidst the Middle Eastern turmoil.

In conclusion, Fadnavis highlighted the Modi government’s successful track record in evacuations, expressing confidence in the safe repatriation of every Indian student, tourist, and professional in the days ahead.
