Minister for General Administration Ashish Shelar has assured the Maharashtra Legislative Council that a meeting will be held under the Chief Secretary’s chairmanship to discuss the concerns of graduate part-time employees. These employees face challenges related to benefits and services, with around 3,000 to 3,500 currently employed in government establishments in Maharashtra. The Minister responded to a motion by MLCs Abhijit Wanjari, Ashok (Bhai) Jagtap, Sudhakar Adbale, Dhiraj Lingade, Satej (Bunty) Patil, and Jayant Asgaonkar regarding pension schemes and other benefits for these employees.
Minister Shelar highlighted the short tenure of graduate part-time employees in government service due to the age limit for their appointment. The members of the Legislative Council urged the government to consider a one-time policy decision to address the concerns of these employees. They proposed aligning the retirement age with that of Andhra Pradesh’s government employees and extending the Old Pension Scheme benefits to all graduate part-time employees under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1982. Minister Shelar committed to examining the issue based on legal frameworks and court judgments, ensuring a meeting will be held to explore solutions for the employees.
