The Maharashtra government is planning to establish two separate task forces to address issues within the state. One task force will investigate alleged irregularities in the stamp duty registration process, with the Accountant General’s office leading the inquiry. This investigation will cover cases processed between April 1, 2021, and March 31, 2026, aiming to ensure adherence to the Stamp Act.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule highlighted a case involving a Senior Clerk who registered documents in violation of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, causing a revenue loss. The minister emphasized the need for strict compliance with the law and mentioned potential disciplinary actions for guilty officials, including suspension and criminal charges.
In a separate initiative, the government will form a dedicated task force to tackle illegal minor mineral excavation across the state. This decision follows discussions on addressing delays in handling cases like the one at Sakhar Phata in Gadchiroli. The government aims to enhance enforcement measures, including utilizing the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act to combat such illegal activities.
