Maharashtra Governor highlighted the transformative power of the Constitution, stating it goes beyond legality to drive social change. He praised Dr Ambedkar for championing self-respect, equal opportunities, and justice for the marginalized. The Governor spoke at Chaityabhoomi, Dadar, commemorating Dr Ambedkar’s 135th Birth Anniversary with floral tributes and a helicopter flower shower.
Dr Ambedkar’s pivotal role in advocating women’s rights was underscored by the Governor, citing his efforts in securing voting rights and personal freedoms for women post-Independence. Chief Minister Fadnavis lauded Dr Ambedkar’s economic insights, attributing the establishment of the Reserve Bank of India to his research at the London School of Economics. Fadnavis highlighted the enduring relevance of Ambedkar’s economic theories globally.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed Dr Ambedkar as the ‘Architect of Humanity’ and emphasized the Constitution as India’s ‘Rashtradharma (National Religion)’. He assured progress on the construction of an international-standard memorial at Indu Mill. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar echoed the call for embracing Dr Ambedkar’s vision of equality and fraternity for inclusive national development.
High-ranking officials, including Ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Ashish Shelar, and others, attended the event at Chaityabhoomi. A book on Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat’s work was unveiled during the ceremony. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma honored Buddhist monks with a traditional ‘Chivardan (offering robes)’ while attendees visited a photo exhibition organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
