Maharashtra’s State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has advised private establishments in Mumbai to allow employees to work from home due to heavy rainfall. Non-essential government offices are directed to operate for only half a day. The SDMA has issued Red/Orange alerts for certain districts in the Konkan/coastal areas from 6-7 July, urging caution and providing emergency helpline numbers.
Torrential rains have caused havoc in Maharashtra, leading to waterlogging and floods in various regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Red Alerts for cities like Mumbai and Orange Alerts for other areas. The continuous downpour has disrupted transportation, with landslides blocking roads and severely affecting train services between Mumbai and Pune.
The heavy rainfall has paralyzed Mumbai’s local train network, causing chaos and inconvenience to commuters. The state, including Mumbai, has been facing relentless heavy rains for the past few days, resulting in waterlogging, uprooted trees, and landslides. Landslides on the Mumbai-Pune Highway and railway tracks have halted transportation, with multiple train cancellations and diversions.
The incessant rain has damaged railway tracks between Karjat and Khopoli, leading to the suspension of train services in that section. Railway authorities are working to restore the tracks and ensure safety before resuming operations. The monsoon has severely impacted the suburban railway network, causing delays and disruptions in train schedules.
Commuters are facing challenges with the suspension of Mumbai-Pune ST bus services by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). With both train and bus services affected, passengers traveling between Mumbai and Pune are experiencing significant hardships. The transportation disruptions have led to confusion and delays, urging commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
