Amid environmental challenges, Maharashtra’s Environment and Climate Change Minister, Pankaja Munde, called for citizens to embrace the role of ‘Vasundhara Rakshak’ or Guardian of the Land. She aims to turn this concept into a widespread movement. Minister Munde linked ‘Vasundhara Rakshak’ with motherhood, emphasizing the need for everyone to protect the Earth.
On World Earth Day, Minister Munde launched the ‘Vasundhara Rakshak Abhiyan 2026’ and other environmental initiatives. She stressed the importance of balancing development with environmental protection. The campaign aims to create ‘Vasundhara Warriors’ inspired by historical figures to combat pollution.
She urged citizens to plant trees, manage waste, and reduce plastic usage. Minister Munde highlighted the need for immediate action against pollution to safeguard public health. She emphasized educating the younger generation on environmental issues through a ‘Past-Present-Future’ approach.
Minister Munde promoted the ‘Maha-RPET Campaign’ focusing on plastic waste recycling. She underscored the principles of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink’ for sustainable practices. Maharashtra leads in implementing initiatives like the plastic recycling program.
Regarding industrial pollution control, Minister Munde discussed the Emission Trading Scheme for managing emissions. She emphasized the importance of industries cooperating to reduce pollution levels. The state’s Pollution Control Board Chairman highlighted the effectiveness of initiatives like the ‘Vasundhara Rakshak’ WhatsApp community in spreading environmental awareness.
