Maharashtra’s School Education Minister, Dadaji Bhuse, declared in the state Assembly that schools failing to teach Marathi would be fined. It is mandatory for all school boards and mediums of instruction in the state to teach Marathi from Class 1 to Class 10. Non-compliant schools could face fines up to Rs 1,00,000 initially, with the risk of losing official recognition if they persist.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of appointing qualified Marathi teachers and assured active monitoring of Marathi teaching standards and exam records during school visits. The state curriculum will be updated to highlight Maharashtra’s cultural and historical heritage, including notable figures like Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule.
Furthermore, the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be expanded in national textbooks to reach students across India. Schools are directed to sing the state song, “Jai, Jai Maharashtra Maza,” with respect alongside the National Anthem. The announcement was made during a discussion led by MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar, with the participation of other MLAs.
Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane also announced the extension of the seasonal monsoon fishing ban in Maharashtra until August 15. This extension aims to protect fish populations, prevent juvenile fish catching, and ensure safety during the monsoon season. Strict actions will be taken against unauthorized fishing vessels entering Maharashtra’s coastal waters during the ban period.
