Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced plans to construct modern ‘busports’ similar to those in Gujarat. A new policy has been devised to enhance Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) depots and bus stations. This decision follows a discussion initiated by MLC Pravin Darekar.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar, the state will develop modern bus stations with improved passenger facilities. The new policy emphasizes extended lease terms, passenger amenities, economic impact, and balanced regional growth. The lease agreement for ST bus station and depot projects has been set at 49 + 49 years to attract investors and ensure long-term revenue for MSRTC.
The initiative aims to provide passengers with modern, safe, and clean facilities while creating job opportunities for local youth. To ensure balanced development, tenders will be processed by grouping depots into ‘packages’ comprising urban, taluka-level, and rural depots. Minister of State for Finance Ashish Jaiswal highlighted the state’s natural resources and historical sites, proposing the development of 50 tourist destinations under the Regional Tourism Scheme.
