Maharashtra’s School Education Minister, Dada Bhuse, informed the Legislative Council about the drafting of bills to oversee pre-primary sections and private coaching centers in the state. The government is focused on reforming the education system by regulating pre-primary and coaching institutes, improving school infrastructure, enhancing teacher training, and updating the academic curriculum. Private centers offering early childhood education to children aged 3 to 6 are now required to register on the School Education Department’s portal following a circular issued on April 24, 2025.
Minister Bhuse highlighted the development of a dedicated law to ensure safe and child-centric education for young children. Regarding private coaching classes, Maharashtra plans to introduce a state law after evaluating Central Government guidelines and models from other states. District inspection committees, led by District Collectors, are actively overseeing these institutions in line with Supreme Court directives.
The state recently celebrated ‘Shala Praveshotsav’ (School Admission Festival) welcoming over 3.5 million students and providing digital training to nearly 400,000 teachers in collaboration with Google. The government distributed the first installment of funds for school uniforms and plans to take strict action against the purchase of sub-standard uniforms. Additionally, a reward scheme has been introduced to incentivize districts improving education quality.
Minister Ashish Shekar announced the decision to conduct Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) recruitment through a Computer-Based Test for a more efficient process. The government is prioritizing functional toilets, clean water, and safe school buildings in every institution. The state curriculum is being revised in line with the National Education Policy, with new textbooks introduced for lower grades and plans for updates in higher classes.
