The Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute (MGLI) in Ahmedabad has conducted 123 training programs in the past three years, benefiting more than 7,200 participants. These programs covered various topics such as labor laws, industrial relations, workplace safety, and human resource management. Participants included individuals from government departments, public sector organizations, private industries, labor unions, and other institutions.
The MGLI, an autonomous institute under Gujarat government’s Labour, Skill Development, and Employment Department, offers over 40 training programs annually for workers, employees, officers, and stakeholders from both organized and unorganized sectors. Established in 1979, the institute is located in Ahmedabad’s Gurukul area and focuses on labor-related training, research, and vocational education.
The institute’s training initiatives encompass a wide range of subjects including social dialogue, labor welfare, quality of working life, and changes in labor legislation. Additionally, it conducts customized programs tailored to the needs of government departments, public sector undertakings, private industries, and labor organizations. Research studies on labor and labor welfare are also a key focus, with findings utilized to inform policy decisions.
MGLI’s campus, spanning around 12,000 square meters and designed by architect B. V. Doshi, houses modern facilities including an auditorium, seminar hall, smart classrooms, computer lab, guest house, open-air theater, and a library with a vast collection of books. The institute offers postgraduate and vocational programs in various disciplines related to human resources, labor relations, industrial safety, and environmental management, catering to students and professionals seeking specialized knowledge in labor and industrial sectors.
