Police in Kolkata have arrested Mohammad Shamim, the main accused in the recent house explosion in Rajarhat. The explosion took place in the Supari Bagan area of Dakshin Narayanpur, resulting in one injury. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of the case.

Shamim, also known as Salim, was apprehended in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, and is being taken to the Narayanpur police station for questioning. The house owner, Zulfiqar Ali, and the broker Shahenshah, who assisted Shamim in renting a room, are also under interrogation.

Following the explosion, the bomb squad discovered additional explosives at the scene. The NIA assumed control of the investigation, with MLA Piyush Kanodia of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) visiting the site and engaging with locals. The police are currently searching for another suspect believed to be involved in the incident.

Locals reported that more bombs were stored in the house, prompting the arrival of bomb squad and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) teams. Two fresh bombs were recovered during the search. The NIA has initiated sample collection and forensic analysis to ascertain the cause and origin of the explosion.

MLA Piyush Kanodia emphasized the need for peace and education in the region, condemning the use of violence to instill fear. He advocated for empowering youth through education rather than weapons, denouncing the destructive impact of past governance in the area.
